Electroplating
This process uses electrolysis to deposit metal film such as nickel onto the surface of other materials (often metals). Typically done to prevent oxidation, this process also has the benefits of enhancing wear resistance, improving conductivity and boosting aesthetics.
As for disadvantages, negligence with wastewater and exhaust from the process can cause pollution and potential health risks to those involved.

Sandblasting
Unlike plating, sandblasting uses abrasion to alter the surface of the workpiece. Of course, there will typically be some form of sand, or equally abrasive material, which is then fired using compressed air.
Sandblasting is highly effective at cleaning the surfaces of the workpiece, whether it’s steel, ceramic or even plastic. It also strengthens the mechanical properties of the surface, enhancing resistance, durability and lifespan.
This process’s shortcomings are mostly manageable. The dust produced can be contained, and maintenance isn’t too tasking. You must ensure that the operator is highly experienced, however, in order to avoid damaging the workpiece.
Laser Etching
Many would think lasers are a great choice for surface treatment, with their accuracy and skill in making patterns. However, laser etching can lead to more abrasion, as the marks are elevated above the rest of the surface.

Spray Painting
This coating method should be familiar to most people. Spray painting simply consists of paint droplets being dispersed using a spray gun.
This method is fast and smooth, providing equal coverage across the entire surface and no differences in texture. The only real downside to this method would be the cost of machinery.
