Try these ideas for upcycling old sweaters

It’s easy to repurpose your old sweaters and create garments that are perfect for cold, wintry days. Perhaps you have a stack of outdated sweaters that are fit for the rubbish bin? Well, don’t despair because it is possible to be creative without needing too many handy skills.

1-Create a pair of mittens

You can easily create a pair of warm mittens using a template and your old sweater material. There is no need to endure cold hands this winter when you have sweater material that can be recycled. Simply draw the template according to size, lay it on top of the sweater and cut it out. You can then move onto sewing and stitching.

2-A mug warmer will keep your hands cool and your drink warm

Tired of burning your fingers on a hot cup of coffee or tea? Then think about creating a mug warmer from an old sweater; a project that can be fun and entertaining. You won’t need much material from your sweater and there are plenty of online tutorials. It is also an easy project for a beginner to craft.

3-Make a pair of fingerless gloves

Fingerless gloves are a great option for winter, allowing you to use your phone while keeping your digits warm. If you want to make several pairs, just cut the sleeves off the sweater and start pinning and sewing. If you have old sweaters lying around, you can easily upcycle them with a knitting kit. There are so many materials you can use and if you want a knitting kit, they can be obtained from a range of suppliers.

There is certainly no decline in the interest in knitting. According to The New York Times  four sweaters created by an Irish woman in her eighties made an appearance in the Oscar-nominated film The Banshees of Inisherin.

4-A knitted hat or a beanie will keep your head warm

An old sweater provides adequate material for the beanie. It allows you to obtain fabric of around 11 inches from the bottom edge and a width of 21 inches all around.
