What are the best ways to save energy in the home?

Our energy use in the home and in the office is constantly being called into question. With the world’s fossil fuel resources slowly, but surely, being used up at an exponential rate we all need to think about what we can do to make our homes as energy efficient as possible. It will also help with the gas and electric bills. Luckily, there are so many ways that you can do this. Would you believe that even something as simple as fitting Downlight Covers to LED lights can redirect heat and not lose it? What are some other ways?

  1. Double Glazing. This is one of the quickest and easiest things that you can do. Single pane windows cannot retain the heat in the home (meaning that you have to turn up the heating) or keep the heat out in the summer (meaning that you need to invest in energy devouring Air conditioning). They also stop the dreaded draughts.

  1. Loft Insulation. Hot air rises. Therefore if you want a nice warm loft to keep the christmas decorations toasty in January and February then a lack of loft insulation will help with that. Thick loft insulation stops the warm air escaping so that it rebounds back into the house.
  2. Cavity wall insulation. Warm air escaping through the walls is also a problem. The insulation here will mean that the air rebounds again as with the loft.

Being greener is not too hard.
