Five ways to develop your style

We all want to feel and look good in what we wear. Developing your own style isn’t always about following what’s in fashion. It’s all about finding what works for you. Follow these five steps to help develop your own style with confidence.

Get great staples

Build your style around a great set of wardrobe staples. A classic white tee, a great pair of jeans, a versatile blazer – these are all perfect foundations for building your wardrobe and then adding your own personal style. Look for well-fitting staples which will stand the test of time, from designers such as Tommy Hilfiger menswear. Great staples such as mens Tommy clothes are great for saving you time and money in the long run.

Know your shape

Style comes when you know what clothes, colours and fits suit you best. Take a good, long look at yourself in the mirror and work out what your body type is then work with it. Learn what shapes and cuts suit you best and how to accentuate your best attributes. Once this is nailed, you can build the confidence to try new colours and fabrics too.

Think about your lifestyle

Your own personal style depends very much on your lifestyle and factors including your job, hobbies and even where you live. Take these into account and make sure your clothes are practical as well as stylish. A high-flying office job has different style demands to, say, an agency creative working in a more casual jeans and blazer environment.

Be you

Don’t wear an outfit because you think you should. Make sure you actually like what you wear and feel like it reflects your personality. Having true style doesn’t always mean wearing what’s fashionable according to Vogue. It means wearing what makes you feel great. Develop your own personal style by being you. After all, it’s what you do best.

Experiment – but don’t fear failure

Experimenting with clothes to find your own style may mean a few faux pas along the way. Try new things to find out what works for you but don’t be afraid to get it wrong sometimes. It’s when we make mistakes that we really learn.
