Finding out About Bonfire Night

One of the favourite traditions in the UK is the fun November date of Fireworks night or Guy Fawkes Night. This annual event is celebrated all over the country and whether you go to a big spectacular display arranged professionally by someone like this events agency Dublin based Davis Events https://davisevents.ie/ or you celebrate with a smaller party in your back garden, it is an event that breaks up the cold and dreary winter and lights up the sky with bright colours.

As well as the fireworks themselves there are many other traditions that go along with fireworks night. As we commemorate a failed attempt by a terrorist known as Guy Fawkes to blow up the houses of parliament in a scheme known as the Gunpowder plot, it is tradition to create a Guy to sit on top on the bonfire.

The Guy represents Guy Fawkes, the most famous of the plotters and as well as an effigy of the man himself being placed on top of the bonfire, the fireworks are lit to represent the gunpowder that him and his fellow plotters used in an attempt to destroy the houses of parliament.

As well as the bonfires and fireworks, there are foods that are also traditional to eat around a bonfire – less to do with the original gunpowder plot and more to do with what is both available at the time of the year and what will keep you warm as you stand outside on a chilly night! These include toffee apples, baked potatoes, and steaming soups.
