Why might your tumble dryer be making an unusual noise?

An unusual noise coming from your tumble dryer can be caused by various factors including leaving items in pockets or faulty bits.
Loose coins and buttons can get stuck

Small items like coins and buttons can get caught in the drum if left in pockets of garments. If these get snagged in the dryer, they can cause rattling or thumping noises while in operation.

Does the dryer have loose screws?

The heavy vibrations which occur while your dryer is in operation may cause screws or components to become loose. Check for any loose parts and tighten them as needed. Homes and Gardens has some tips on making your machine go further.

Inspect the belt for wear or tear

Examine the machine belt that turns the drum for any signs of wear, fraying, or damage. If the belt is nearing the end of its life, it may begin to produce slapping or thumping sounds.

Check the drum rollers for damage

Drum rollers support the drum’s movement, but over time, they can wear out or become misaligned. This general wear and tear can give rise to squeaking noises during rotation.

If your current machine is coming to the end of its life, it may be time for a new appliance. Complete your kitchen with one of the many integrated tumble dryers on the market. Slick, efficient and easy to accommodate, integrated tumble dryers easily slot into a kitchen unit and can be hidden away even while in use.

Is it a loose or worn motor?

The motor that powers the machine’s drum can develop issues over time. You may have loose or worn-out components and this can cause unusual noises during operation. Unfortunately, this may signal the time for a new machine.
