How to Move House and Look After your Mental Health

Moving house is well known as being one of the most stressful life events. Unfortunately, if we want to get on the property ladder, upgrade to a bigger home, or move away to a new area, it is something that we unfortunately have to do!

One of the reasons that it can be stressful and can have a negative impact on our mental health is because change and upheaval are not things that humans always cope well with. If you already have a mental health condition, it may be worth speaking with your GP before you move for some techniques and help to prepare yourself beforehand and ways to manage your mental health throughout the moving process.

There are ways that you can help yourself and make the moving process easier to deal with however. Here are a few ideas…

Be well prepared – One of the most stressful things about moving is the feeling of pressure and the last-minute rush. It might be a good idea to create a checklist of what you need to do before the big day – find local companies like removal companies Cheltenham well in advance and make sure you have booked them ready for moving day.

Have a box or bag full of essentials – important documents that you don’t want to go missing like passports, as well as things that will come in handy on moving day such as teabags and mugs as well as the kettle!

Get some help – Having people to help you like family or friends is a huge relief especially on the day of the move – someone to lug boxes around, make a cup of tea or take the kids out for a bit are all useful!
