What is Hayfever?

The medical name for hay fever is ‘allergic rhinitis’ and simply means inflammation of the nose due to an allergic reaction and this can be caused by exposure to airborne allergens like dust mites or pollen from plants and grass. While seasonal hay fever is normally caused by seasonal allergies, ‘hay fever’ generally refers to allergy caused by pollen (seasonal) or tree pollen (not seasonal). As stated earlier, hay fever can be found all year long due to all of the factors listed above and is not limited to any one season or seasonal time period. While it’s a common allergy symptom, it is important to note that hay fever can also be a symptom of an underlying allergy causing condition.
